A Book Review: The Heebie-Jeebies At CBGB’s


 
this post is not directly related to music, but rather music history or the cultural development of music if you like. id like to give a recommendation for a very interesting book that i read a while ago which i think is a good read for anyone interested in the cultural evolution that followed the revolution of the mid to late 1960s in the underground scenes, and/or jewish culture and art.
of course this books title seems a bit strange in the context of this non-punk blog, and a secret history of jewish punk by steven lee beeber in fact is a book about punk, and in fact i dont even like punk (with a few exceptions of course, otherwise i wouldnt have read this book either i guess). but also it not about punk itself, it is about the roots of punk music – which lay in the 1960s, as i said before. as i am still no punk fan, the fact that this genre also had its roots in jewish culture was completely new to me and raised the great curiosity in me that made me read this book. and it was more than worthwhile …
