It’s Been a Long Long Long Time…

yes, 58 years can be a long, long, long time – but not as a lifetime. the mixed feelings of grief that occupied me these days were caused on one side by the fact that its once again the anniversary of the loss of a great idol, and on the other side by the horrid fact how irreversably fast time flies. yes, it is exactly ten years ago today that george harrison passed away. to me this was a very incisive and dramatic event – first, because it was the first (and to this day – luckily – only) death of a beatle to happen in my lifetime, and second because my grandfather died just a couple of days later in early december 2001 from the same illness that george succumbed to (although he was lucky enough to reach a little higher age).
as an atheist i probably disagree with george or many of his fans that he is “in a better place” now (even if this should be being reborn or what else one can think of), i simply say lets thing of the awesome life this lad has had – a life many of will …

Mighty Morris Ten!

look at that cool guy in his cool chequered pants… its his 65th birthday today!!! did you recognize him? yep, it is roger glover, bassist of deep purple (first in mk II and also in the current line-up), and early band mate of ian gillan. they had been in the pop/rock/mod band episode six, of which glover was a founding member and for which he wrote several songs (among them: thats all i want, mighty morris ten, sunshine girl (on this one he is also singing!!), when i fall in love, wide smiles, mr universe). at one point he told his friend ian gillan, who first was very reluctant in songwriting, that he would not talk to him again until he had written a song. well, it seems like it worked – but nevertheless glovers creative input has proved to be essential for deep purples success in rock history.

however, roger glover is not the only one celebrating today. it is also the 66th birthday of ten years after bassist leo lyons, woodstock hero and on the road for almost fifty years. happy birthday!
catching up with other events, on saturday it was the …

George Harrison: Wonderwall Music (Soundtrack – German Pressing) (1968)

as today is the 25th february once again, heres something in honour of george harrison, who would have turned 67 today. we all know he sadly passed away on the 29th november 2001, aged just 58 – but for now lets remember one of the most charismatic and coolest beatles and indulge in this interesting and somewhat obscure solo effort. in fact this lp is not obscure at all, as it already has been rereleased on cd and can be found lots of times on music blogs around the web, but it is rather unknown outside the circle of die-hard beatles fans. wonderwall music was the soundtrack to a film called wonderwall, and it also was the first solo record of a beatle during the lifetime of the band. i wont say too much about the album now, as theres plenty of info on this record on the web (just try google if you want to know more), and i dont want just to copy what others already said.
the reason i posted this lp anyway are, again, the high resolution cover scans, AND – and this is why i specially noted in the headline that it …
