Zero He Flies… Happy Birthday Al Stewart!

65 today – scottish folk singer-sonwriter alastair ian stewart aka al stewart is mostly known for his 1976 hit ‘year of the cat’, though i largely prefer his earlier works. his very first 45 even featured a yardbirds cover on the b-side, ‘turn into earth’, which first cought my attention before i started to explore his 1960s records. the 18 minute title track of his ’69 lp ‘love chronicles’ was one of the first songs that officially included the F-word, certainly quite revolutionary at the time.
below you see a concert movie trailer of the 1970 holland festival of music, featuring al stewarts beautiful folk ballad ‘zero she flies’:

Folk and Fiddle in Cologne

this is just the second issue in my series of concert reports, but again it is about the same artist as the first one. yesterday, on march 25th, eric andersen and his wife inge with italian violinist michele gazich as a special guest gave a small concert in cologne – and of course my friends and i were there to attend it. for more background information on eric and the concert before please see the post from the 14th february: today is the highway – and eric andersen is 67.

before my friends and i went to the theater we spent a nice afternoon in sunny …

Today is the Highway – and Eric Andersen is 67

heres a little delayed report on a concert of folk singer eric andersen that i went to on the 6th february. i am only posting it now because i had to wait until i recieved the photos that a friend of mine had taken there – and because incidentally it is also andersens 67th birthday today.
the special thing about this concert is that it was a private performance held at a friends place, who owns an old copper forge with a former boiler house that had been renovated last year and is now used as a big hall for private events or art exhibitions. this friend of mine is a professional blacksmith and so he has made all the beautiful metal interior of this venue, like windows and staircase, himself (you can have a look at his works here, but unfortunately the site is in german only). another friend from this crowd however is a musician whos group had already played at that old boiler house (known as the “kesselhaus”), and he had met andersen, who lives in the netherlands for six years now, some time ago in cologne and asked him if he would like to come …
